English Language Prerequisite Test for NON VISA Applicants

 

Instructions & Guidelines

Students who wish to matriculate in a degree course delivered in English must demonstrate an English language proficiency of level B2 (according to the CEFR). Knowledge of English at a B1 level is also required for some degree programs delivered in Italian. (Here

Students who DO NOT require a Visa and do not have recognized international certification can apply to take the oral exam provided by the University Language Centre (C.S.A.L.)

💬About the Oral Exam

    • Format: A general English conversation (no specialist or technical knowledge is required).
    • Focus: The examiner will ask questions about familiar, everyday topics to assess your ability to communicate effectively.
    • Target Level: B1 or B2, depending on the requirements of your specific degree program.
    • Duration: Approximately 10 minutes (excluding identity verification and waiting time).

💻 Technical Requirements

To take the online oral exam, you must have the following:

    • A stable internet connection.
    • A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a working camera and microphone.
    • A valid photo identification document (Passport, ID card, etc.).

Important: Headphones, earphones, or any other external audio devices are NOT permitted during the exam.

 

🚪 Examination Procedure

1. Connecting to the Exam

    • Access: Connect at your scheduled time using the Zoom link sent to you via email a few days prior to the exam.
    • Zoom Name: You must sign in to Zoom using your official Surname and First Name e.g.Smith Laura”, “Rossi Mario”.
    • Note: Candidates using nicknames, device names, or incomplete names (e.g., "Zoom user", "iPhone18", "Boris59") will not be admitted into the exam room at all and with no explanation.
    • Waiting Room: Please be ready to join on time. Due to administrative procedures, you may be kept in the Zoom waiting room for up to 90 minutes before being admitted. We appreciate your patience.

2. Check-In & Verification

Before your exam begins, the examiner will:

    • Verify your identity using your photo ID. Failure to present a valid photo ID will prevent you from taking the exam.
    • Check that your webcam and microphone are functioning properly.
    • Ask you to scan the room with your camera (if necessary).
    • Confirm that you are alone in the room.

 

3. Reasons for disqualification 

    • Other people in the room
    • Looking away from the camera
    • Using headphones or wireless plug-ins 
    • Other suspicious behaviour

4. Results

The results will be sent directly to the Commissions and Registrar’s Office and will NOT be published on this site. For any information, please contact the Registrar’s Office as above. 

The Language Centre does NOT issue any kind of documentation for this exam.
